Jewelry shops reopened in kathmandu

JUNE 23, KATHMANDU.   The gold and silver enterprises that remained closed for around two weeks reopened from today. The gold entrepreneurs have started their services from Sunday following the understanding between them and the government representatives on Friday.

The entrepreneurs were in strike demanding that the standards for systematizing the gold and silver business be managed and that both the government and gold entrepreneurs should be included in the taskforce to prepare it, and increase the supply of gold, among others.

Federation of Nepal Gold, Silver, Gem and Jewelry Associations, and Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers´ Association (NEGOSIDA) had been leading the protests.Around 12,000 entrepreneurs are associated in the organizations.

All the programmes of protest were withdrawn after the government agreed to form a joint taskforce to settle the problems appearing time and again in the profession, said Chairman of the NEGOSIDA, Maniratna Shakya.

Meanwhile, the hallmark gold is traded at Rs. 50,500 per tola and silver at Rs. 825 per tola, today. Earlier on June 11, before the strike, gold was traded at Rs. 53,000 per tola, while silver was at Rs. 875 per tola, respectively.

Chairman Shakya said the bullion price was down following the fall on gold price in the international market. The price was down because of stocks remaining for the last 12 days.RSS
